Dallas Mayoral Candidates at Home: Mike Rawlings

Mike and Margaret Rawlings live at 10434 Lennox Lane about a (looonnnng) block over from Ross Perot and Phil Romano. The Strait Lane area is one of my favorite neighborhoods in town — large, leafy lots and horses and you feel like you are in the country, not smack in the center of a major city, which is one of the area’s top selling points and reasons why values hold on tight here. Acreage is back to about $1 million per, last I heard. (I remember when it was $500,000 an acre, should have bought five!) The Rawlings’ home is quite modest compared to the mega-mansions up and down Lennox. Their home is 5,696 square feet, two stories, and though it was built in 1987 the home was extensively updated in 2006, a year after they bought it. It is a beautiful Hill Country, Austin-esque contemporary of clean white stucco with standing seam metal roof,  five bedrooms, four and a half baths,  pool, three fireplaces, a greenhouse out back and I’ll bet there’s a library or study in there as well. The Rawlings home is valued at $2,676,480 and we should thank them for doling out $60,042 big ones in annual property taxes. Oh yes, the Rawlings have a fence but as you can see, the home looks like it’s perennially ready for a photo shoot. Translation: understated, tasteful wealth here. The Rawlings do not want to scream money, but can scream in the house at each other all they want because the neighbors are so far away they will never hear. They are rather comfy people who like to kick back and enjoy their 1.07 acres a whole lot. Most all their neighbors had Mike Rawlings sings in the yards, including a gigantic one up on Royal Lane. Translation: The Rawlings may live on a big spread, but they are good neighbors. Home condition: Very good.
